SEMINAR DESCRIPTIONS
This is a forty-hour intermediate to advanced level seminar designed for law enforcement, military, and professional investigators at any skill level. The training covers all disciplines of electronic surveillance intercepts and the legal aspects as well. This is not a basic electronic surveillance course, but an accelerated course concentrating on applications and methods of intercepting intelligence. The focus is on existing equipment utilization, rather than new acquisitions. Basic courses teach equipment identification and operation. Our courses teach students how to legally conduct professional, covert electronic and technical surveillance using their existing audio, video, photographic, communications, and specialized gear. Gathering quality intelligence that exceeds technical, evidentiary, and judicial standards is the goal. In addition to an in-depth curriculum on audio and video intercepts using several disciplines, a block of electronic countermeasures is included. This section is a familiarization of both professional and "dirty" countersurveillance methods that may be employed against the investigator or undercover officer. The focus is to train the officer in defeat and avoidance technologies where possible.
This is an advanced thirty-two-hour skills-building specialty seminar designed for law enforcement, military, and professional investigators at any skill level, who routinely use technical surveillance equipment. Any investigator will benefit from this course, however officers who have previously completed the Electronic Surveillance Methods for Law Enforcement Investigators seminar will find the course more meaningful. The objective of the course is to teach investigators how to build , troubleshoot, and repair select covert surveillance devices. The primary blocks of instruction are: basic investigative electronics theory, drawing/reading schematics, repair procedures for select surveillance equipment, testing methods, special wet-tip soldering techniques, the use of multimeters and other standard test equipment, installing connectors, designing and building audio & video antennas, the design & use of LED circuits, video camera and recorder maintenance, vehicle installation problems with RFI and EMI, and specialized surveillance equipment fabrication methods. Practical exercises include the design and building of devices for: audio intercepts, D/C power regulation, covert video/photography, high-gain video transmission/receiption, and electronic countermeasures As skills are developed, fifty-two separate practical exercises test these skills in progressively more complex tasks. Each student will build six covert surveillance devices to augment his/her equipment load that are theirs to keep. The devices have a market value of approximately $1,500. "Hands-on" practical exercises comprise about 90% of this course curriculum.
This is an advanced twenty-four-hour specialty seminar designed primarily for law enforcement officers using electronic surveillance devices while performing or coordinating undercover operations. It addresses specific problem areas associated with undercover investigations that frequently prevent optimum intercept results. The clandestine nature of undercover frequently conflicts with the scientific parameters within which intercept devices must operate. This course teaches the undercover officer ways of maintaining or exceeding the scientific parameters of his technical equipment while retaining the undercover role. Superior quality audio and video recordings, increased range of transmitted signals, a thorough understanding of RF propagation, conventional and unorthodox intercept procedures, and simple but effective electronic counter-countermeasures are goals of this course.
This is an advanced twenty-four-hour specialty seminar designed for law enforcement, military, and professional investigators at any skill level who desire to acquire the highest quality audio evidence possible. The curriculum is an accelerated, in-depth study of sound, audio intercept methods, legal aspects of intercepts, and evidentiary recordings. It teaches efficient, and often unorthodox, methods of acquiring superior quality recordings with the officer's existing equipment and with clandestine articles found within our environment. Obtaining discreet, exceptional quality, intelligible recordings, able to withstand all legal, forensic, and evidentiary standards, is the goal of this course.
This is an advanced twenty-four-hour specialty seminar designed for law enforcement, military, and professional investigators who use miniature intelligence transmitters, tactical repeaters, and intelligence receivers (audio & video) in undercover or covert operations. Although investigators operating at any skill level will find the course useful, the highly technical curriculum will be more meaningful to officers who have completed the Electronic Surveillance Methods for Law Enforcement Investigators course. A transmitter is one of the two most widely used devices in audio and video intercepts, yet few officers are accomplished in their use. Although a highly technical & specialized course, it is approached from an investigator's perspective rather than that of an engineer. The focus of this one-of-a-kind course is to give investigators a thorough understanding of transmitters, antennas, environmental factors affecting RF energy, RF propagation, receivers, and operational considerations that affect results. INTELLICON views the transmitter, transmitting antenna, environment, receiving antenna, receiver, and undercover operative as a functioning system. Achieving the maximum potential from transmitting equipment requires an understanding of how these elements work together. Because radio frequency energy is easily detected by the most unsophisticated devices and minimally trained individuals, a comprehensive block on electronic countermeasures against RF energy is included. Both professional and "dirty" methods of detection will be covered to enable undercover officers using RF devices, in many cases, to either defeat or avoid detection. The objective of the curriculum is to increase transmitter range, clarity of the signal, and quality of the resulting evidence. Any investigator who uses low power transmitters and receivers in covert operations should consider this unique course mandatory training. DEVIANT GROUPS, MOVEMENTS, CULTS AND RELIGIONS (Including Anti-Government Movements) This is a forty-hour seminar designed to train law enforcement, military, and other professionals in the recognition and identification of deviant groups and movements. The general thrust of the course is multifaceted toward counter terrorism, homeland security, anti-American activities, and movements with philosophies having a potential of alienating the practitioners with mainstream Americans. Most deviant and anti-government movements are either driven or influenced by a religious belief and often requires a different approach by law enforcement for the safety of the officer and society. Most non-mainstream beliefs are frequently misunderstood by law enforcement, investigative personnel and the public because of the emotion attached to religion. Understanding the belief system itself, can often serve law enforcement by identifying the motive of a crime or purpose of a harmless ritual. A few of the many broad belief systems addressed in this course are: Christianity, Paganism, Wicca, Judaism, Voodoo, Obeah, Islam, Santeria, Palo Mayombe', Christian Identity, Candomble', Brujeria, Quimbanda, Umbanda, and Shamanism. The primary focus, however, is on deviant movements within the primary religions themselves. Additionally, the assumption that all "patriot" organizations and movements are the same or that all are destructive is an invalid conclusion. This course takes a close, historical look at the "patriot" and other anti-government movements, their beliefs, their actions, and their goals. This seminar is not a religious crusade. It addresses religious beliefs and movements from a law enforcement perspective with the goal of helping investigators understand the motivations behind both individual and group actions. Some of the religions and sects covered have been a part of the American Culture for centuries. Others are a result of immigration and an increased emphasis on cultural identity. Still others are primarily anti-American or anti-Western in philosophy. Because of the increasingly diverse sub-cultures within the United States, this course should be required training for all law enforcement officers and public service personnel. The course requires in-depth discussions of religion, race, cultures, beliefs, organizations, and related subjects. Individuals who are overly sensitive to discussions of these subjects or who are easily offended by differing opinions in these areas should carefully consider their need to attend. |
